17 Aug 2017 – 27 Aug 2017
Sounds of Space was a free inclusive community event that happened at 107 Redfern from 17-27 August 2017 that merged the arts and sciences and consisted of two exhibition spaces; a large scale projection room showcasing the best in astrophotography and incredible recordings from Space, and a curated group show of mixed media works from an exciting collection of Australian artists.
The projection room featured a rotating program of audio/video works. There was a traditional look at the actual audio recordings from Space alongside corresponding imagery as well as a look into composers interpretations of the stars and planets above us, think – Gustav Holst’s breathtaking suite The Planets and much more.
This unique event was geared towards inclusive community engagement with an aim to spark joy and discovery for the younger members of our community who may not have engaged with the incredible Universe above us, and a chance for us all to rediscover the sense of awe that lies in the boundless Space surrounding us.
This event was proudly sponsored by City of Sydney.
There was a range of free community workshops and events including the Sydney Science Festival – A Night of Illusions, Indigenous Astronomy & Capturing the Light of the Universe & Space Collage with Jo Parkin.
